Types of bank statement PDFs — and how we handle each
Not all bank statement PDFs are the same. Our tool handles all four common types:
Text-based PDF (digital statement)
Most commonWhat it is: Downloaded directly from your bank's website or mobile app. Contains selectable text.
How we handle it: Best accuracy. Text is extracted directly — no OCR needed. 99%+ accuracy.
Scanned image PDF
SupportedWhat it is: A paper statement that was scanned with a scanner or photographed. All content is an image — no selectable text.
How we handle it: Our OCR engine reads the image and extracts all transactions. Accuracy depends on scan quality — clear scans achieve 95%+ accuracy.
Password-protected PDF
Unlock firstWhat it is: Some banks encrypt PDF statements with your date of birth or account number as the password.
How we handle it: Open the PDF in Adobe Reader or Preview, remove the password (File → Print → Save as PDF), then upload the unlocked version.
Multi-account or business PDF
SupportedWhat it is: Statements that include multiple accounts or sub-accounts in one PDF (common with business banking).
How we handle it: All accounts within the PDF are extracted. Transactions are separated by account in the output. You can filter by account in the results dashboard.
