Every type of fee — detected automatically

If your bank charges it, the AI finds it

Fees hide in the transaction column under different merchant descriptors. The AI maps every descriptor to its real category.

Overdraft & NSF

Typically $25–$35 each. Often multiple charges stacked in one day.

ATM fees

In-network, out-of-network, and foreign ATM withdrawals — plus your bank's and the ATM owner's fee.

Wire transfers

$15–$45 domestic, $35–$65 international — incoming and outgoing.

Monthly maintenance

$5–$25/month when you fall below the minimum balance or direct deposit requirement.

Foreign transaction

1–3% on every purchase abroad or from a foreign merchant — even online.

Late & returned item

Late credit card payments, stop payment requests, and returned checks — $15–$35 each.

The part no one tells you

Most banks will refund a fee if you call and ask

Banks budget for a percentage of fee refunds. A one-time overdraft fee is almost always refundable on the first request — especially if you have been a customer for more than a year and the overdraft was your first in six months.

The script is simple: “Hi, I noticed a $35 overdraft fee on [date]. I'd like to request a one-time courtesy refund.” Do not apologize, do not negotiate. Banks have pre-approved scripts for this.

Use our fee report as your receipt. Read off the date and amount, and the agent can usually process the refund in the same call. Even ATM fees are sometimes waived if you ask to move to a fee-free account tier while on the phone.

Reader report: One user ran the tool, found $210 in overdraft fees across 12 months, and got $140 refunded in a single 15-minute phone call. Your mileage will vary, but the ceiling is higher than most people expect.

How AI finds hidden bank fees on a statement

Bank fees rarely appear with a human-readable label. They show up as OD FEE, FOREIGN ATM, or INT WIRE — codes only the bank's back office was meant to read.

Our AI uses pattern matching and a large database of known fee descriptors to translate these codes into plain English. It also looks for amount signatures — a $35 debit from the bank itself on the same day as a transaction decline is almost certainly an overdraft fee, regardless of what the description field says.

For the most complete picture, upload 3–12 months of statements. Three months catches most monthly maintenance and overdraft patterns. A full year surfaces annual card fees, international wire fees, and ATM fees you took on vacation. Most users find at least $50–$200 in fees they had forgotten about — and a meaningful share is refundable.
