Understanding the SA ID structure
A South African ID is structured as YYMMDD GSSSS C A Z — 13 digits total. Standard Bank uses positions 8–13 (SSSS C A Z), which is the last 6 digits:
- Positions 1–6 (YYMMDD): date of birth — not used for the password
- Position 7 (G): gender indicator — not used
- Positions 8–11 (SSSS): 4-digit sequence number — part of the password
- Position 12 (C): citizenship — part of the password
- Position 13 (A, Z): race indicator + checksum — part of the password

Why only the last 6 digits of the SA ID?
Standard Bank chose the last 6 digits because they're the most unique portion of an SA ID — a 4-digit sequence number plus 2 year-of-birth digits. The first 7 digits (YYMMDD + gender indicator) are less unique and can be easier to guess. The last 6 are essentially random from an attacker's perspective.
Which 6 digits exactly — I'm counting from the right?
Yes, count from the right-most digit. SA IDs are 13 digits. Take positions 8–13 (the last 6). For SA ID 9001015800087: position 13 is 7, 12 is 8, 11 is 0, 10 is 0, 9 is 0, 8 is 8 → reading normally that's 800087. Type those 6 digits as the password.
What is the Standard Bank credit card statement password?
Same format: last 6 digits of your SA ID. This applies to both UCount Rewards and regular Standard Bank credit cards. For business credit card statements, the password is the last 6 digits of the company's registration number if no SA ID is on file.
How do I download a Standard Bank statement?
Standard Bank App: open the app → tap your account → Statements → select period → Download. Standard Bank Online Banking: log in at onlinebanking.standardbank.co.za → Accounts → Statements → choose period → Download PDF. Both produce a password-protected PDF that opens with the last 6 digits of your SA ID.
What if the Standard Bank password doesn't work?
Confirm you're using only the last 6 digits, not the full SA ID. Check that your SA ID on file at Standard Bank matches your physical ID (log in → Profile). For joint accounts, use the primary holder's SA ID. For non-citizens, use the last 6 digits of your passport or work permit number. Call Standard Bank on 0860 123 000 if still stuck.
How do I remove the password from a Standard Bank PDF?
